HarborLink Network
Selected by The City of
Dayton to Enter Into
Contract Negotiations
for City-wide Wireless
Initiative
The City’s Municipal
Wi-Fi Initiative Will
Provide Green Space,
Airport and Convention
Center Broadband Access
to the Citizens and
Guests of the City of
Dayton
Dayton, OH August 30
2006
— HarborLink Network has
been notified by the
City of Dayton, OH that
its proposal to expand
no-cost Wi-Fi services
citywide has been
selected as the “best
proposed solution” and
negotiations will now
proceed to reach a final
contract agreement.
HarborLink currently is
under agreement with the
City of Dayton to
operate the existing
Wi-Fi pilot program that
encompasses an
approximately one-square
mile area of downtown
Dayton. It is
anticipated that the
proposed network
expansion will encompass
all fifty-five (55)
square miles of the
city, the Dayton
International Airport
and the Dayton
Convention Center.
John Moore, Acting
Director of the City of
Dayton’s Department of
Information and
Technology Services,
said, “Based upon the
various proposals the
City of Dayton received
for expanding Wi-Fi
services throughout the
city, HarborLink was
selected as the most
responsive and best
proposed solution. We
are hopeful that the
creation and execution
of a mutually acceptable
agreement can now be
reached quickly and
efficiently.”
A final contract for the
citywide Wi-Fi service
is expected to be
presented for Dayton
City Commission approval
by the end of September.
"The City of Dayton
Wireless project
represents a very unique
scenario for both the
City and HarborLink,"
said Rick Tangeman,
HarborLink Network's
president. “For the
first time, citizens and
guests alike will
have one unified,
interconnected network
from the time they land
in the airport, do
business downtown and
relax in one of the
city’s green spaces,
giving users the ability
to stay connected
wherever they are in the
city. HarborLink is
excited to be selected
to enter into
discussions with the
City to extend the
current free advertising
supported access as well
as the possibility of
bringing on additional
premium services. We
also plan on expanding
our media and content
offerings making our
network a much more
informative,
entertaining place from
which to begin your web
browsing, email, etc.”
HarborLink Network
currently owns and
operates over 300
locations in 32 states
and is continuing to
expand. In addition to
their single site
venues, most notably
Buffalo Wild Wings Grill
& Bar restaurants,
HarborLink has continued
to grow their Municipal
network presence, and
added venues that
include public
libraries, college
campuses, and public
mass transit. HarborLink
Network, Ltd., formerly
a division of The R.B.
Tangeman Co., Inc., was
founded in 1999.
HarborLink’s network, as
it exists today, began
rollout in 2002 and has
been praised as a leader
in the development of
free, advertising-based
Wi-Fi hot spots. For
